Marinated Grilled Beef Chuck Steak

I love grilled steak. I’m partial to charcoal because it really does give food a different taste, but we do have a gas grill and it works quite well. I wanted to try a different marinated/rub than I normally do (I’ll post that when I do). I used some ingredients that are usually found in many Asian style cooking. I came up with my variation and it came out quite tasty that I did use it again (with an additional ingredients) with done in pork chops, so it can be used in other meats, chicken or fish with some variations. Here’s my recipe for marinate grilled steak. Serves 3-4.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs. Beef chuck steak
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 Tbs. Sesame oil
  • 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 Tbs. fresh ginger, minced (I used Good and Gather frozen minced ginger)
  • 3 Tbs. honey
  • 3 scallions (green onions), finely chopped
  • 1 tsp. oyster sauce
Ingredients
Beef Chuck Steak

1. Clean and trim the steak. If you want it a little more tender, you can tenderize it. Some steak cuts need it. Place in a gallon plastic bag.

2. In a bowl, add soy, vinegar, oil, honey and oyster sauce. Mix thoroughly.

3. Cut up garlic, ginger and scallions. Add them to a mortar and pestle and mice all together

4. Add minced to the liquid and mix thoroughly.

5. Pour the mixture into the baggie with the meat. Zip close making sure you let out as much air out of the bag as possible, seal and mix. Place in refrigerator preferably over night.

6. Prepare the grill and preheat to 325 degrees. Oil grates and cook the steak to your desired taste from 140 degrees for rare (which is about 2-3 minutes per side) to 170 degrees well (4-5 minutes per side). Use a thermometer if you need to. It will also depend how hot your grill is. I cook it with the lid open because these steaks are thin, so they don’t take a lot of time to cook. Once it’s to your liking, cover with foil and let the meat rest for about 10-15 minutes. It will continue to cook a bit, so if you don’t want to over do your steak, cook it for the shorter time. I think it will come out better. You can now enjoy it with potatoes, rice or any kind of side dish you desire. you can slice and make fajitas or maybe even a steak sandwich. it’s up to you. I had mine with some air fried potatoes that I made. It was yummy.
